Question about a pretty terrible amp..

I have a pretty bad amp, but it works. It's an Almani CH-550.

The only specs I could find on it is that it can run at 550 watts at 4 Ohms. Not even sure if that's RMS or max. Im going to wire two JL 15w6's at 1.5 ohms, I also have the option of wiring them at 6 ohms. Would this be safe to have this amp running at that kind of wiring? I just want to see if I'm able to wing it with this amp until I can afford a new one..

Thank you everyone for your help with my stupid questions.

Also suggestions for a new amp are welcomed.

Amps are only stable to a specified ohm load. Normally a 2 or 4 channel can only drop to 4 ohms bridged. A mono can normally drop to 2 or 1 depending. If you go lower then it can handle and the amp does not have a protection feature it will go up in smoke. You need to find out what it can and can not do.

No.. Only lower then capable will burn it up. It just wont put out **** for power on the high side. There you run into clipping, trying to raise the gain to add power it doesnt have and all it does is cause distortion. Distortion equals heat

I see, that's what I figured. Thanks for the help everyone! I'll just be careful with gains up until I can afford another amp. I'm so impatient with car audio.
