I Drive A Supra
I just got my 500/1 an w6 installed. YES! It sounds badass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I was reading through my manual and it tried to explain to me how to adjust for 'q' and I got a headache! You know what my amp is, my sub is, and i'm running a 310 with 2v outs. The woofer is in a sealed box built to spec. Can someone tell me what I should adjust the 'q' to, and explain why please?

?

"Q" in electronics can be applied to a lot of different applications //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Is this on the head unit, amp, what?

Amp, sorry 'bout that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks for posting that.

Ignore it, because it's part of the bass boost function. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But if you want to know what it does, my post above explains.

Cool, I'll just leave all the bass boost off... I don't wanna use it anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I don't understand why the dial has such low numbers though... also, would you mind explaining center frequency? I like to know what all my options are, even if i don't use them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Why did you want to use a SSF for a sealed box? That's like getting all the drawbacks of a ported enclosure's low frequency rolloff with none of the output advantages //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Interesting little calc to convert bandwidth in octaves to quality factor - that's why the numbers are what they are, isn't terribly useful to know, though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

In the graph that JimJ posted, fc = center frequency. It's the frequency which the center of the bass boost will be applied to.

Like a center frequency of 25 would give you a boost in the ultra low bass, a center frequency of 50 would give you a boost of the drum kicks, and 80 would give you a midbass-type boost. Be careful though, too much of a boost can and will damage your subwoofer.

I don't know, I thought it was benificial some how. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Holy shit that's alot of math. I'm definatly leaving all that 'off' //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I know jl amps had so many settings at first, i was lost for days too. I believe the manual recommend center freq @ 40 and "Q" @ 1.6 and work from there. Also bass eq/boost @ off

Some people do it to stop the excessive rattling that tends to happen with sealed boxes at high SPL levels. Epecially in undamped cars. You still generally get a smoother frequency response than ported would provide.

doesn't matter what you set center freq and q to if you ahve the bass boost off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Prevent overexcrsion at low freq effectively increasing the mechanical power handling of the sub. Since excursion increases exponentially with a decrease in frequency it becomes really easy to overextend a sub at really low freqs. The nice thing about using a SSF with a sealed box is that you can usually set it much lower than with a high tuned box and still get output at the really low freqs.
