Q vs BL

Okay so my journey to finding another sub is quite hard. First i wanted an RE XXX. Then it was the BTL. Now i want the Q. I have a hifonics bxi2006D amp. Its a "2000 watt" amplifier but i have heard it is over rated. I was wanting 2 q's with the bp option but i am worried i will blow them by turning them up too loud and not hearing them bottoming out or whatever (im what you would call a newb lol). I was wondering how much sq i would be sacrificing if i got a bl instead. How much sp would i be gaining with the bl?

Say the q was 9/10 on sq and 6/10 on sp. How would the BL look then?

If you only have the hifonics, you arent going to be able to power 2 Qs with BP, i mean you could power it, but it wouldnt be worht the extra options. You could get 2 regular qs and be ok, or 2 SSDs and overpower them a little. Or one BL, i dont belive you can power the BTL either as if i recall it needs closer to 3K.

Ive had a Q before and was impressed, so much that i will be getting 2 more for my next install. The BL is definanlty more of a SPL driver then SQ. If you want a combo of SPL and SQ then get the Q, its a great driver.

I would agree with what 2002 said, I had a BL and it took 1500 with out even getting warm, and it was only the 10" version, with NO options, bone stock!

I would look at the regular Q's or the SSD's !

What if i wanted to upgrade my amp to a sundown or kicker 2000 or 2500 watt amp later on. Then i would want the bp option. What my question now would be is is the bp option a negative option if im not able to give it its full potential untill a year or two later and just settle with the piece of sh-t amp i have now (the hifonics)

(I was mislead when i purchased my hifonics amp in thinking i was getting quality....**** them)

If your going to get another amp later on, no it wont hurt to get the extra options, all that does is allow the driver to take more power, it wont effect anything else.

But i would suggest looking at what impedences you are going to run and fitting the driver with the universal option which allows you to switch the impedence later on with a recone. Reason i say this is because your hifonics puts power out at 1 ohm vs. a kicker which would put it at 2 ohm.

Also, how many subs are you looking to get? My personal suggestion would be to either A) sell your amp and buy a new one now and get whatever you want or B) to buy 2 SSDs and run them for now and when you have more money, sell everything and start over. All your equipment should hold value fairly well, especailly if you buy the subs used.

And there is nothing wrong with hifonics, they arent the best, but they are cheap, reliable power. A lot of people run them on here. Only negative is they are usually overrated.

I would love to just sell my amp and buy a new one but then we are looking at spending over a thousand dollars as opposed to just 600 for 2 new q's with the bp option. If i can use my amp for now for maybe like a year without hurting my speakers than thats what i will probably do.

My original debate is whether or not to go for sq or not. Im a newb and probably couldnt even tell the diff. in sq in most speakers but i do want mine to sound NICE. But i dont want to sacrifice any sp that i had in my last set up. My last set up was just two type r's in a ported box powered by my bxi2006d.

You could still get the Q's, the 06 series of Hifonics is supposed to be closer to their rated power than the 05's were. Each sub would likely be getting about 900+ watts, just set your gains to match your HU and remember that it is not supposed to be used as a volume control.

I wont be dissapointed will I?

Gain is a setting on the amp itself, it's used to match the output voltage of the HU. Since different HU's have different output voltages it allows you to get the proper amount of power out. And with all the positive reviews I've seen you should not be dissapointed, you shoiuld gain a fair bit of SQ and not lose SPL.
