PVC in L-Shaped ports

I noticed some boxes that have pieces of pvc cut in half, then placed on the side of the box in the port. Sounds rather blunt, but hopefully some will know what I am speaking of. What exactly does this do? Is it to help the air flow? If you don't know what I'm talking about I'll try and find a pic, or draw something up. I seen it on a couple boxes at the World Finals, and it makes me curious.

Are you talking about it wrapping around the edges of the port inside the box?? It might be for reducing port noise, but it's kinda ghetto. Rounding off the edges with a router is a much better solution.
