push/pull method gain db's???

Having an enclosure sharing the same internal airspace and having 1 sub inverted and 1 sub mounted regular would it be louder?? I have heard some stories of how some people have gained db's with the push/pull method. Any thoughts or experiences with this type of method for SPL competitions??

Are you talking about a clamshell isobaric system with the drivers stacked on top of each other, or just two subs in a box with one inverted and the other not? If it's the latter, you'll gain nothing over a regular system...

If it's isobarically loaded, you'll now have something that requires twice the power and has less distortion (push/pull loading reduces distortion produced by nonlinear travel of the cone).

this is what I read the other day:

I just did a little test with two different boxes and different inverted combinations. I used 2 12w1v2's in a sealed box .75 cu ft each(seperate chambers) with the subs mounted in the box. On the TL mic it did a 130.2 I then inverted both and did a 129.9 Then I changed to a box that is shared air (same cu. ft as before) I ran both in the box 130.1. The one inverted and on in the box and did my high for the day at 130.6. Then both inverted for a 130. There should be no variables in this test. I used the same tracks, I used the same voltage (on a battery charger and waited until the amps all read the same). So I'd have to believe at least in the basic sub line that a push/pull can be louder. I'm going to test again with a bigger box and different subs later.

How does it sound inverted when its just normal in there shared chamber. It seems like u lost alittle bit of SPl not much at all b ut ohw does it effect the sound quailty. Can u even tell the diffrence?

Providing the wiring is correct they will sound the same, in some cases you can hear more mechanical noise from the inverted woofer because the motor is outside of the box.

For SPL purposes, DB Don , the owner of Beyond Audio told me that a -.5 db difference was commonly seen when testing mounting arrangments.

IF anything, I would attribute that small gain to the extra internal volume with 1 driver inverted.. Doubtful, but may be the case. Also, everytime you burp, test, whatever, the variables change.
