I heard/read something about the lasers on the PS3...that some weren't so good. I have considered getting a PS3 as a way to play Blue-Ray and video games at the same time. Can it also play regular DVDs?

Would the purchase of a PS3 as a Blue Ray Player be a good choice?

Quick google search says yes it can play dvd's.

I have the 40gb PS3. Use it for games and blu-ray playback. Works flawlessly.

Sounds pretty good. Seems no reason to buy a separate DVD player now if the PS3 plays them good enough.

Yeah mine works well on Blu-Ray or DVD. I have the 40GB as well.

40gig here and works perfect so far. Like it better than my stand alone HD-DVD player.
