PS2 Hard Drive

I was wondering who here has a PS2 (regular or Slim) with a hard drive?

I am going to buy the ethernet adapter, 160-GB Maxtor IDE hard drive, and the HDAdvance software to store my games on.

I hear I can fit 50+ games on a hard drive that size.

From what I hear, the HDAdvance software can copy the game when inserted in the PS2 in a matter of 30 min!

I can't wait!

Well, I am using the "fat" original PS2 that I have. However, actually you can use a hard drive on the slim PS2.

There are many many hard drives that have USB that will work on the slim PS2. Or, you could get the IDE to USB adapter for the hard drive. The only difference is, obviously, the hard drive would be external (so most IDE drives would need an enclosure of some sort). //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Then again, you can get an adapter that allows you to connect a IDE hard drive to your new slim PS2. Check it out here if you don't think so.... http://www.modchipstore.com/XCM-HD-Connect-PS2-16272.html

^ yeah? Who cares though. Only thing the HDAdvance disc does is to start the GUI and then allows you to scan the hard drive for games. It's quick.

In fact, my friend's modded PS2 only takes an average of 2-3 seconds a game to load up! Much better than the discs IMO. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Plus, I noticed that some games don't lag now. Example, remember on GTA's games that kinda take a few seconds to load between towns or when you cross bridges? Now it doesn't do that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I can't wait. I will definitely post some detailed pics when I add my hard drive. I may even show a quick video to show you how short the games load up. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

^ NO. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The adapter is ONLY for the IDE hard drive conversion. The Slim PS2 can easily take a hard drive by just using a simple USB hard drive. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif That's it.

HOWEVER, you can't copy the games as easy with the USB drive because you have to do it with the dvd-rom or dvd-burner from your computer. In other words, the computer copies the files (game) to the hard drive on the computer and then you have to swap it to the USB drive. Yes, that means you have to connect the hard drive to the computer and then reconnect the drive to the PS2. Not hard just plug and play. It's just you have to do extra steps to copy the games with the USB drive.

I much rather the IDE drive and the HDAdvance software because you can simply put the game in the PS2 (after the GUI is loaded for the HDAdvnace software) and hit copy. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Takes an average of 30 min. and there is nothing else you have to do. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

if youre willing to spend the time you can use an exploit to boot hd loader and its free. this is how i do it. you put a file on your memory card and when you insert a specific ps1 game it boots hd loader.

and about transfering games its much faster to hook the hdd up to your computer.

go to the exploit tutorial on explotstation.com

these sites are very helpful.

if your new to all this it might be better to just buy the disc. but you can do the exploit for free.

^ yeah thanks. Actually I am getting the AR MAX Thumb Drive loaded with HDAdvance as well as the actual HDADvance software discs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Thanks for the sites though. I have found a few good ones but these are nice as well.

thats exactly what i said
hsugh.gif

youd have to buy the $60 adapter to be able to copy games. because you cant do it with usb.

whats the NO for?

You can copy games onto a USB hard drive. No need for an adapter. The USB hard drive plugs into the pc to copy the games to and then you conenct the USB hard drive to the USB on the slim PS2. What don't you understand. There is NO ADAPTER unless you get the IDE for the slim PS2. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

here is your quote....

yeah you can have a hard drive, but you cant load games on/off of usb drives, right? youd have to buy that $60 adapter....and have an external drive

completely defeating the purpose of the slim ps2

Yes, you will have an external hard drive because it is a USB hard drive. HOWEVER, there is NO $60 adapter that you need for the slim PS2 if, and ONLY IF, you use a USB hard drive.

Fair enough. However, ff you are going state that you have to get the adapter to load games, then you should also stress the point that you would need a IDE hard drive as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif The USB hard drive would do nothing but store games if connected to a computer. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
