Protecto Wrap "Deadener" Review

I got this stuff at Home Depot for a whopping $15.99 for a 25' x 6" Roll, or 12.5 SF. My first impression is that it's pretty thin and flimsy. Not much to it really. I assume it's the typical rubberized asphalt material. Once I removed the backing, though, I came to realize that this stuff is frickin STICKY! I know people complain about Peel N Seal coming off... this stuff is so sticky that it would get stuck if I just barely touched it to the metal I was deadening. I doubt falling off will be a problem with this stuff. I did no surface prep, and it stuck with a vengeance.

It did its job well, though. No more rattles from my liftgate. Woot.

Anywho, onto pics:

Cool wonder how it would do on my trunk lid. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

I don't get it. On the first pics it looks like its just aluminum and on the others its rubber. Or is it just shiny? I Need to deaden so I might go buy some but is that solid enough even be worth it?

That's the two sides.... the aluminum is the outside, and the black is the sticky side...

I've had it in my car for about 2 years now. Black car also which gets VERY hot. Been through 2 summers and 1 winter. It looks as good as the day I installed it.

I first tried some of the white backed stuff and it wasn't as good, but the aluminum backed works VERY well. It's cheap enough to double/triple up and yes it sticks to itself very well.

I always wipe down all surfaces with brake cleaner and it's it reasonbly cold out I warm it with a hair dryer for a few secs before applying. Also make sure to overlap all edges, don't butt them up.

I did the underside of my trunk lid a few months ago and it looks perfect after plenty of very hot summer days.

Actually have 10 rolls in the garage I'm putting in a car tonight...

My only compaint is that it's really thin.... which means nothing to the company ho made it because they intended for it to seal rain gutters...

Oh, and one thing I forgot to mention is that it doesn't have any odor. It smells plastic-y like if you put your nose next to it, but it definately doesn't smell nasty like asphalt deadener tends to.

Anyone used this in a long term period in a southern state? Where it gets really hot? I may buy some of this for my doors but no point if it will fall off during the summer when the inside of my truck gets to 110+...

honestly, I wouldnt use it on anything that... matters. I'd use it on the floor, roof, trunk lid, etc. But for doors, where your mids are mounted, I'd spend the extra bucks to get a quality deadener that would get you the best sound.
