Got out the Alpine

Took out the faceplate to see if it will fit, and it does, (barely)

Can't keep the lid that goes up and down on due to fat hinge system. (you can see it in the back ground)

Unit should fit like this, and still have accesability to remove faceplate and half the motorized move up and down, etc....

Should I keep like this? and cover up the top somehow with glass or plastic weld, or maybe a 1/2 Din pocket for Ipod/CD's

Or do this?

With a 1/2 Din pocket or 9 bar EQ (1/2 DIN)

FYI - there is a dash kit for those, around $50ish. If you went that route, you could pick up a factory nav unit on ebay for about $400ish. All the wiring should be in the dash behind the storage box.

Nice car once it's finished. I have an '06. I'm about ready to jump to a non-turbo before gas prices jump back up.
I'm about to hop on stage 3 and get 11 MPG //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Not for automatic climate control units //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Got ya, I don't have that. Some of the dials needed to be relocated though. About a 2 hour knuckle scraping project.
Lol

Ye, i got the LTD, fully loaded version, with more electronics, which always means more problems for replacement/ upgrading.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

Oh well, we do what we must to get by.

Any hints on how I should mount the HU thought?

Strange though, mine has the factory navi.

get a dash kit for a s10 blazer, latest model, should have a DIN and 1/2 like you want. that way it might look more flush, only problem is it prob won't fit. or, PIITG

I would just buy a generic dash kit for a din and a half din pocket, then just jimmy rig it in there. I would probably keep the h/u on top though, otherwise you will likely run into problems either with the motorized face, or you won't be able to close the lid. (I'm not sure if this will actually happen, I don't have the pieces in front to play with, so just a guess based on the layout and space you have)... If you really want an eq, use that instead of a pocket, otherwise just throw a pocket in there. You can also just get like those metra self install faceplates or whatever... you cut it out and then you could use it to cover up the pocket if you don't like that look. In fact, I have an extra one of those things sitting in my room if you want, I'll give it to you so that you can use it if you need/want
