Project: F350 begins...
Alrighty, now that i have internet in my condo, i'll start the build log. Nothing too exciting has happened yet, but i did start the process this weekend.
First off, heres a background of the equipment thats going in:
-(4) 15" Alpine Type-R's, dual 4's wired into a 2 ohm load
-(1) Autotek MM4000.1D for the alpines (4000RMS @ 2 ohms)
-(1) Pioneer Premier F90BT Double-DIN unit w/ an ipod touch
-(1) set of Pioneer Premier TS-D720C components
-(1) set of Pioneer Premier TS-D602P coax's'
-(2) Hifonics TXi4004 2-channel amplifiers
-100 feet of 1/0 Knukonceptz Kolossus fleks power/ground wire (50' grey, 50' red)
-40 feet of 4ga Knukonceptz Kolossus fleks power/ground wire (20' grey, 20' red)
-60 feet of Knukonceptz Karma SS 10ga speaker wire (for subs)
-100 feet of Knukonceptz Karma SS 16ga speaker wire (for speakers)
-(3) Knukonceptz Karma SS RCA cables (2channel)
-other Knu goodies such as fuse holders, terminals, etc
-(2) Kinetik 2400's
-(1) Kinetik 800 (already in the truck)
-(1) Mechman 250amp alternator
I think thats everything, although i could be forgetting something. Im still awaiting the arrival of most of my stereo equip from sonicelectronix (it should be here monday), as well as the alternator, and a dash bezel from a newer avalanche.
Theres two tricky parts about this build:
1) Getting a double DIN headunit in a 1.5DIN dash
and
2) Fitting 3 amps, and two kinetik 2400s under/behind my rear seat (my sub enclosure will take up the entirety of the bed of my truck)
I've seen some people mod full size GM dashes to fit double DIN units, so im going to give it a try. 2002 avalanches are equipped with a 1.5 DIN dash, whereas 2003+ avy's have a double din. sssooo, i ordered a dash bezel on ebay from a 2004 avalanche, and me and the dremel are going to have some fun trying to fit the double DIN.
As for the box, it was a pain in the arse to get to fit correctly. The only way i could make four 15's in the bed of my truck worth while was to do a clamshell, and with the angle and height of the box, the best i could come up with (after about 15 designs) was aproximetely 16.5cu ft @ 33hz (i have the exact calculations down somewhere, but im too lazy to look for them). The box design takes aproximately four full sheets of MDF, and is 5 feet deep.
I have a feeling theres going to be a lot of speedbumps to get over in this build, such as possibly needing to raise my rear seat, or move it forward a few inches. I think it'll all come out okay though.
Here is the calculated box design:
And this is what it should look like when its all finished. I made a few changes though. The inside of the box will be painted red, and there will be only blue LED's in the box, not blue and purple as the picture shows. The 45's on the port wont be there either:
more pics to come in a minute!
