project beer pong table has commenced

Umm...I would have put huge dowels...or pieces of particle board in b/w or behind the cans that are the legs for support. You need something else that also serves as support...

You'd be surprised how strong 4 colums of beer cans are. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

UPDATE!!

The table is completed (for now) and standing on it's own, though it definitely needs some reinforcement in the legs. I have 7/8" dowel rods in there now, but could only glue them here. I'm thinking about filling in the space between the cans (where the dowel rod is) with concrete or some other hard, pourable substance i can pick up around here.

But hey, at least it's standing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As for the top, it needs a few more coats of primer, then i think we're going to paint the Valpo (my school) basketball court on the top. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you should have used JB weld for glue //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

but as far as reinforcement, i would have done 2x4's with cans around them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

lol also- maybe you would consider putting a "lip" around the edge of the table with some corner moulding, beer WILL be spilled.. and my guess is lots of it. after you paint the logo, i would prolly throw a nice coat of resin over the whole thing - easy to clean that way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You know, i was gonna make the table stand on its own, and then build cans around it, but the guys said that was cheating. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thus, i'm forced to make beer cans as strong as possible. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

As for jb weld, if i can gets smashed on accident, its much easier to rip off if its super glued on. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

If I had the money burning a hole in my pocket, I've wanted to build a table with a plexi top and under-table LED lighting...so with a flick of a switch you could outline a starting rack, four cups, three, two, etc...plus a lighted "VT" or something in maroon and orange in the middle.

Oh well...if I had a couple hundred LED's sitting around doing nothing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Too much beer has been spilled on this carpet for me to care any more. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As for the top (basketball court), i was just gonna laquer over the whole thing. We don't want the surface to be slippery. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif
