profile baja vs cali, whats the diff?

just like the topic, why is one more than the other $$ wise? i see the monos on the cali's, have a ssf, but other than that the specs seem to be the same between amps. where is the diff? just wondering cause i am looking into one of these for a budget amp to power my maw 15 @2ohm.

why though? it seems like the boards would be the same with the rated power and specs being the same. the only dif like i said i can see is the case, and the cali having a ssf. is the ssf what make them better? to me it wouldn't matter as i have a sealed box, so if i can save a few $$ on a temp amp for this mach 5 maw 15, i might as well. you know.

Honestly I dont know if one is better then the other, but I had a Profile Baja amps from 15 years old to ~20 years old.

Same little 300x2 @2ohm amp and it lasted for 5 years with no problem. This was also back when I never took care of things so the gain on it was all the way up for 5 years...

They may be cheap, but they seem to hold together quite nicely.

I have had the same experience with Profile amps- nothing but positive. Friends used to buy them because they were cheap and because you could get them at Crutchfield. They would run them in all kinds of configurations and with settings that I would never use on my own equipment, but they never blew or cut out. The one that I remember being basically bulletproof was white- I cannot remember whice series that is.

ebay has them for so cheap that I actually considered getting one temporarily.

I used to have a little baja and it did just fine.

My buddy still has a cali and it works good as well.

Or maybe I got them switched around, either way they are good budget amps.

thanks for the replys. i figure they would be about equal. i am debating on eith a profile, or a ma audio amp. the baja i can get real cheap, and the ma i can get fairly cheap, but the ma is rated higher@14.4 volts. i just cant decide. its only for a temp amp, so i guess i probally couldn't go wrong with either. they would both be better than the stupid insignia amp i have now.

Did you check the Profile site for refurbs? If what you want isn't listed on the site give them a call as they might have what you need. Otherwise millionbuy has them for good prices.

I run an AP1000 for my rear fill and it does just fine. I believe when researching Profile amps I ran across some threads saying the Baja's has over-heating issues.
