Processors?

Just looking around online and saw car stereo audio processors for the first time. I havn't really read to much about them yet, but I was wondering if they are really useful for the average (non competition) daily driver stereo?

I figure there are different processors for different things. The one I saw first was a bass restoration signal processor.

Here is what I have as of now:

99 Tahoe

Premier DEH-P980BT HU

(2) K650.2 componants running on zx250.2 amp (85w x2)

CVX 12" running on zx750.1 (750w mono) (will be two subs later, running on separate zx750.1's)

will be adding 2 SSMB8's (or 6.5's) off a zx amp later

Not exactly a high end system, but not crap either. Would I benefit from some kind of processor or is it a waste of time for me?

There are many types of processors, a lot of head units already have some of them built in.

EQ - good for making the stereo sound better, not very helpful for a boom car

Crossover - Pretty much a necessity, many headunits and amps have then built in

Bass restoration - can be interesting, but note that it comes BEFORE the amps. It CANNOT add extra bass output beyond your what your system is capable of without it.

HPX and other spatial expanders - interesting sound effects, can get "old" sounding quick though if used too much.

dynamic range expanders ...., competition stuff only

BBE - an even order distotion generator, can make vocals a little more distinguishable

Aphex - used to be, all pop recordings had the crap ahpex'd out of them ..... seems to add a little to the higher end.

Dolby digital, 5.1, etc ... - what's the point in a car ?

"Dolby digital, 5.1, etc ... - what's the point in a car ?"

I guess for people who install video... not my thing, though.

Yeah, my HU has stuff built in (16 band EQ, BBE, BMX/COMP, etc) and amps have built in xovers. I wasn't sure if these processors I was looking at were for me or not. Seems like they are more useful to people who just add an amp and a couple speakers to a factory HU or something.

Thanks.
