Pricing Oscilloscopes

Are they usually expensive? I see at least 10 every time I go to the I-80 fleamarket and always want to pick one up but I don't know how much to offer. I'd think they'd probably take 20-30$ but I didn't want to offer that if I should be able to get a 20-40 year old oscilloscope for 5$. They look super old but I figure electricity hasn't changed much in the last 40 years has it? :p I will probably need one for later on in college for all my tinkering, once I get into the advanced electronics classes. I was just curious what I should offer for one.

Sorry for going OT, but what exactly should one be looking for in an oscilloscope to use for car audio installs (ie what features etc)?

I know they are used for setting the gains on amps in order to prevent clipping, but other than that I have no idea how to use one or what to look for when buying one. However, after finding out that they can be had relatively inexpensively, I want to look into buying one to use for future installs, I just need a little guidance on what to buy and how to use them.

$400? **** that

my velleman
You're still gonna need a clamp meter to bench, so i don't know why the **** you'd spend $400 on an o-scope unless you were a short-wave radio operator, or worked for a cell phone company.

$400 is dirt cheap, my tek portable scope cost about 4k new, and its a cheap unit compared to most. For car audio anything will do, since your not looking at anything high bandwith or complex. Any old scope will work if you know how to use it.
