Premier 880PRS vs 860mp

What are the changes to the new model? I see that the pre outs went down in voltage on the 880PRS, and that the 880PRS added an external aux out, but besides that what are the differences? I currently am running a 860mp and am wondering if there is a reason to switch to the 880PRS. the main difference i know of is the 880 has a seperate 16 channel eq for right and left

the 860 has a single 13 band

that is the largest difference i know of.

and i think the screen is smaller on the 880.

I dont know if the 860 controls Ipods or not. Also running active the 880 has right and left crossover adjustments, level and polarity. I dont know if the 860 does this, I didnt run active with the 860.

I'm currently runing active with the 860mp and it does not have seperate left and right x-overs. Is that really a plus, or just a qimick? I'm just not sure why someone would want different x-overs from the right side to the left side. I can see why you would want seperate right and left EQ's, that is a deffinate plus!!

white oel, 5.5v vs. 6.5v, seperate 16 band eq vs. 13 band eq. i think the 880 has better slope choices on all channels can't remember and the 860 only has it for sub.

The 860mp has slopes for everything in Pro mode. Trust me, I'm using it for my active x-over in Pro mode.

dude what i was saying is i think the 880 has a higher step slope on all channels than the 860, i've owned both so i'm attempting to help you.

I went directly from a 860 to an 880.

If I had to make the choice all over again, I would definitely would go with the 880. A few reasons:

1. I think the deck itself has a classier look to it, the simple screen is very nice and mellow looking.

2. the 880 has a more solid feel to it, especially the knobs. I owned two 860's (still my second favorite deck), and the knobs felt sort of flimsy and cheap.

3. the 860's are known to have problems with the ground trace- basically, if it goes, youll have noise in your setup you cannot get rid of.

4. one of my favorite features- you can turn the internal amp off on the 880, that option wasnt available on the 860.

Theres a few other minor things, such as different display options (you can have the display show your voltage on the 880, I think that was available on some earlier models also).

Add in what has already been posted about the dual 16 band eq's and the slope adjustments (I wasnt aware of that), and the choice is pretty clear.

The only downside I can see to the 880 would be if youre more into the flashy looks- the 860 does offer the color screen. Other than that, Id say go for the 880, no doubt.
