PPI + JL Audio

Here's my dilema. I have 4 punch 8"s. They can hold 600 watts total. I have a JL 250/1 driving all for right now. I know a guy that is selling an old PPI PC250 for $50. Can I run both of these amps together on the 4 subs? 2 apiece at 2 ohm's. They are all in the same box, and not chambered seperatly. I am not sure what the power rating is of the PC250. I can't find anything about it anywhere. If it can push 250RMS I should be ok right?

If it is a gray PC250 it is rated for 50x2@4ohms, 100x2@2ohms, and 200x1@4ohms bridged. I don't think that is going to do what you were looking for. Other than that I suppose you could run two different amps to your subs as long as you set everything up so that the levels are matched.

This guy want's to sell me this amp bad. I know the old ppi's were underrated. And it will do 100x2 at 2 ohms. Do you think I could push it to 125x2 at 2 ohms without it clipping? If so then that would give me the 250 that I need to match the JL Audio.

The four 8" subs are "fighting" against each other when using the same airspace. What I would do is purchase two separate sub boxes that can hold two 8" subs and that has two chambers, one for each 8" sub. You can get those at some pawn shops, specially the ones that sell car stereos, they have sub boxes for sale too. I'll assume they are the 150 watts @ 4 ohms since you did mention that they can handle 600 watts. Then we would also need to know how you have them wired, in series or parallel. Four of the 8's wired in parallel would give a 1 ohm load. I would NOT get the JL Audio 500/1 because the specs show that the minimum impedance for continous operation is 1.5 ohms & you only receive 500 watts RMS(root means square). The 4 subs in parallel give a 1 ohm load. I would purchase the Orion HCCA-D1200 which is rated at 600 rms x 1 channel @ 1 ohm load. It costs $250 on Woofersetc.com versus JL Audio's 500/1 which costs $677 msrp. With all the money saved, you could probably also buy a 1 Farad capacitor and those sub boxes with separate chambers, that way they will pound much much harder. Good luck.
