i need some help setting the gains on my amp..

i have 2 12 w6vs rated at 400 rms and an orion 1200d at 1200 watts at 1 ohm so around 600 each sub

how should i set the gains of the amp? should i set the amps gains according to it giving 600 watts or whatever?

i dont know how to explain it.. but for the formula, should i plug in 1200? so.. sqrt(1200x1)

or set it at 400? or maybe even in the middle at 500?

i dont know how these subs can handle that power

i just want the most output from them without risking any damage or blowing them..

so any help would be greatly appreciated!

turn your stereo to how loud you like to listen to it. Have the gain set maybe half way. Get back to the amp's gain and turn it up and sit back in the drivers seat. Keep turning the gain up and adjusting the crossover until you have exactly what you want to hear at loud levels. Make sure your head unit has moderate settings so that after you tune the amp, you can always fine tune from the head unit according to the type of music or loudness of a burned CD.

Just my $.02

^yeah i know how to set the gains properly, but according to what numbers to get the voltage im going to use?
You really should be fine with the 1200w. If you really wanted to play it conservative, you could use 800w. But those w6v2's really should be able to handle that small amount of extra power.

So, if I were you, I'd aim for ~34.64V
