Power to 2 PunchHX2 12's?

those punch hx2's honestly work better in sealed in my opinion, the power HX2's work better in a ported though i have been corrected on my previous error on that statement. also those subs only do 1000 watts max and your probably running them at about 1300 watts to both so around 650 to each. you put much more than 1800 watts total on those subs your pushing your luck and will blow them. you want louder get 2 Power HX2's and another JBl 1200.1 that's what i would do.

Yeah, provide a little more info. Two HX2's on a JBL 1200 should be awfully loud if set up correctly. If this is all good, then your cheapest option is the ported box. Theoretically, it should increase your output by 3 db, which is twice as loud.

wait your saying switching from a sealed to a ported will put out 3 more db. i don't think so, how can that be?? i myself don't think that a box would change 3 db difference otherwise people who use sealed would swap out to ported for everything and increase by 3 db without adding power:confused:

Think of it this way,

A ported box, tuned to a certain frequency, allows the air from the sub's backstroke to come out the ports in synchronization with the subs. This doubles the amount of air being pushed. The more air that is pushed, the more SPL.

yeah i know that. but i still don't see how it would give a 3db gain in power. that's like saying if i put my 4 12"s in a ported box which they aren't designed for they will give me 157 at the cone instead of 154. i don't see how that is

Yea that 3dbs is in the power supply not the box and even if you were to port it right I am guessing you would only gain 1db at the max if that and probally would'nt sound as good (I love sealed) so I would stick with the sealed box maybe try a diffrent one and wire those subs down into 1ohm if they are 4ohm verisons and that shoulbe be **** loud.

hey jlman if that comment on changing my box was to me hell's no i wouldn't change. i know my subs love sealed and sound better in sealed. and i knew that just a box woudn't make 3 db difference, not even going from a pre-fab sealed to a custom sealed or ported. now pre-fad to custom would that make a big difference?? i am going to get myself a custom 2 12"s box and amp rack built by my friend and was wondering if it will be louder in a custom versus pre-fab. i know it should but i'm not good on box stuff so help me out jlman.

No i meant to the other guy try another size sealed enslosure. And most likly the costom will sound alot better but all depends on what size the enclsure and what it is made with ect reply back and I will help ya out.

yeah if i myself was building my box then i would definetly ask for help. now this may seem a wussy way to go about it by some of you guys but i have a friend of mine that i work with his friend builds custom boxes and enclosures for his income. he's awesome as far as what i've seen. him and i are gonna get together in about 2 weeks and come up with some designs on amp racks and boxes all mixed into 1 sweet looking install. if any of you guys live here in texas or went to the padre show about a month ago, you might have seen one of his install's on Jason Morillo's Lexus. but i'm gonna get with him and build all my stuff, so if that irritates some of you b/c i'm not doing it myself OH WELL:)

I just tried two different boxes on Winisd- one was a 1.5 sealed box, the other was a 2 cf ported box tuned to 30hz. At 30hz, the ported was around 5 db's louder. At 40hz also 5 db's louder, 4 db's at 50hz, and around 2.5 db's at 60hz. That is all with the same power. So, unless Winisd is incorrect, porting the box should make them quite a bit louder.

i call your bluff on that one. your not the only person who's put subs in sealed and ported. i have a friend who had a custom built 4 12" box for his expedition and it is ported but the size fit into my car also. put his box in my car it wasn't custom enclosure to where it wrapped around his car just custom box and it was ported. had it tuned to 35 hz i believe and i also had my custom 2.0 box in his car. did a mic test on both one at the cone for the sealed and at the port for the other. it was about a .7 db difference so try and tell me now unless your a moron that doesn't know anything how you can get so much more difference. a sealed to a ported won't make 5 db difference no way, if it did then people who used sealed would just switch to ported for comps and blow everyone away. thats my observation.

People do use ported boxes 95% of the time for SPL. Why do you think it is so amazing when you have a guy hitting 160's in a sealed box?

What kind of meter were you using?

Please rewrite what you were trying to say about the two boxes, because it makes very little sense.
