power strain?

amps are usually less efficient the lower the resistance is, so 700wrms of real output would probably be rougher the lower the ohm load is, assuming you're comparing amps with the same design (a, a/b, d, ice, etc)

oops i forgot to mention its an a/b amp powering subs. 600 rms @4ohm a/b amp vs 600 rms @1ohm class d amp. sorry i didnt make it clear at first
I don't really know what to say there

a/b amps are usually less effeciant than d, but I don't know how much of a difference you would be looking @

so power output will remain the same? ie. bass will still be "about" the same loudness. and power draw "strain" on my electrical system will be about the same?

the power will be the same, assuming the voltage is set the same

I really don't know what to tell you about the power draw differnces in your scenario with the differnt amp topologies being discussed

contact the manufacturer of each amp, they should be able to give you a good idea of what current draw each amp is capable of @ that resistance and output level

is it any more of a strain for my system to power 700w rms @ 4 ohm vs 2ohm or 1 ohm? sorry for the newb question.
In theory, no. Watts is watts. As long as the efficiency of the amp(s) in question is the same the power draw will be the same regardless of output impedance.

your not going to be able to tell the difference in sound or loudness when comparing the same wattage used in a class d, ab, or/or at different ohm loads, at least for the sub stage. some can hear the difference in their front stage when comparing different amp classes, but they have trained ears or are a hybrid of lizards and humans!

oh. that makes a little more sense. i was thinking about selling off this amp (crossfire cfa-602) that will give me 600w @ 4ohm for something that can give me 600w @ 1ohm because i thought it would be less strain on the electrical system.
