For whichever setup i get next, i will probably be using a jbl 1200.1. depending on woofers, it will be run to one channel at 1 ohm, or to two channel at 4 ohm. my question is if i wire it to 1 ohm using 1200 watts, will it draw the same power from my alt/battery if i wired 2 channels at 4 ohm.

thanks for your time

the 1200.1 is mono chanel. wire it to one ohm, and you get max power. at 4 ohms you will get around 600 watts. and current draw for the 600 watts will not be as much as the 1200 watts.

alright thanks.

The other question i have... Depending whether i wire it at 1 ohm or 4 ohm, will i need the same gauge power wire?

I currently have 4 gauge right now, for two 300 watt amps. do you think id be fine running that wire if i used the 1200.1 at i ohm? i have fueses before my amps and such so nothing would get damaged if it werent to work

Alright.

I currently own my first system, and i had bestbuy install it for me. ( i know i know ) And when i buy a new amp and sub, i plann on doing the work myself, what wires do i need to replace? just from the amp to the distro block?

You're not gettin off that easy. You're going to need to replace the main power wire that goes from your battery to your distro. 2ga would get the job done, but if you want to get more power later you might want to use 1/0ga. The wire from the distro to your amp should be fine, you said that was 4ga right?

4ga would be fine if that's the only amp you're using and you're never going to upgrade. I'd probably go with 2 ga because at some point you're going to want front power too, but sometimes 0 is easier to find.

Well im 17 right now, and i have the car for only a year and a half more. or so. so i will probably not upgrade the amp again, I was told 4 gauge wire should be fine from a few others, but id just like to double check.

lol, i remember when i was 17 and said i wasn't gonna upgrade again. go with 1/0. it really isn't that expensive. http://stores.ebay.com/Genuine-Cable-and-Power_Welding-and-Battery-Cable_W0QQssPageNameZVIStoreHeaderLinksQQtZkm if you have another amp for mids/highs, it wouldn't be good to run both of those amps on 4guage. also look to find some used wire. i found enough 1/0 guage wire in the classifieds to do my whole car for $20 shipped.
