Power capacitors....

New with car audio....and I just wanted some info on power capacitors. What do they do and when do you generally need them. Also soon I will be investing in my car audio and ive got some question on the battery. When do you know that there is too much hooked up to your battery. For instance could you hook up a 1000 watt mono channel amp and a 4 channel amp with around 400 - 600 watts to your car battery and be ok or would this cause problems? Just need some basic info on the whole deal.
