Possibly Stupidest Thing I've Ever Done.

Well, I almost had a $550 whoops this past Sunday. I can't help but think its one of the stupidest things I've ever done. So I took my subs and amp out my truck on Friday to check some stuff out. Well Sunday came around and I went to put it all back in. Except I ran into this problem. I went to put the 12v into the amplifier with everything else already connect and there was a little spark. I went to do it again and same deal. I'm like, "What the hell is goin' on here." So, I disconnect the power wire on the opposite end of the fuse, plug the wire in the amp and go to put the other side back in the fuse. Once again, sparks. I'm like WTF. So I make sure to disconnect my front and rear battery. So, I put the power wire in the fuse before my amp (Kicker SX1250.1 which comes with an external fuse), which I had to put in a new fuse cause I blew it when I just stuck the wire in the fuse hold despite the fact that it had sparked. So now I hook the the fuse up that goes to the secondary battery and go to connect the power wire to the positive terminal. And dang it if sparks didn't fly, scared the positive terminal all up. I had called my brother, but since he was like 2.5 hrs away it was hard for him to help, and he was telling me that something was trying to draw power and asked if I had everything plugged in right, and of course I was like, "Yeah, do you think I'm an idiot." Well after scaring up my Stinger SPV44 positive battery terminal and several other things, come to find out, I was an idiot. Took a second look at the Ground and 12v wire on the amp, and you guessed it, I had them backwards. So, now I feel like a retard, and am upset that I scared up my battery real good along with other things like my nice Kicker fuse holder. Of course when I realized what I had done I pretty much turned white as a ghost thinking to myself, "Oh no, my amp." Luckily thought it works perfectly since I wasn't a total idiot and didn't try to shove the wire in it like I did the fuse, but instead barely touched it twice and only had a tiny spark each time. So there it is, possibly the stupidest thing I've ever done.

your first mistake was to hook up the power wire with the batteries connected.
You're right. I had my secondary stinger disconnected but I should have thought to have disconnected the primary since the power wire to the amp is crimped together with the power wire from the primary.

lol, always double check where your shovin them wires.
Oh, don't worry, I've learned my lesson.

your power and ground are the same color? i always make sure to use a different color pwr/grnd to avoid that problem. look into it
No, they are different colors, but I was trying to rely on memory on where to hook the wires into instead of reading the bold, cap white letters that say ground and 12v.

I blew my amp like that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Same reason to. Just toolazy to lean over and see power n ground.

Thx for the moral boost guys. I don't feel like a total idiot now, just a partial idiot. It always makes you feel better when you know you aren't the only one that has done something like that.

Everyone makes mistakes. I think its a good thing I'm slightly OCD when doing things; It keeps me from making as many mistakes.

I did it too not too long ago. It was dark and I didn't bother checking which terminal was which and I went on memory. Last time I'll ever do that. I knew something was wrong and check the terminals to find that I had reversed it. Luckily, I didn't blow any fuses and the amp's protection diodes were fine.
