Possibly a new sticky??

I'm about to switch to one set of comps and push 200wrms to them. I dont remember which size speaker wire I have running throughout the truck. I'll be double checking that later but my idea for a sticky would be to list the power capabilities of each size of speaker wire and which size is best to run when pushing x amount of power. This would apply for speakers and subs. I'd never thought about it but I don't know the answer to the question.

So I think it could be a helpful sticky to come up with. Agree?

If you are pushing only 200 watts per channel then the stock wire size is fine (anywhere from 16 to 22 awg) unless it is corouded of in very bad shape.

so this is what Im getting from this program:

speaker wire:

runs equal to or shorter than 10ft @ 4ohms

14g up to100wrms

12g up to 250wrms

10g up to 400wrms

runs up to 20ft @ 4ohms

14g up to 75wrms

12g up to 150wrms

10g up to 250wrms to 300wrms

sub wire:

all runs set at 5 feet

4ohms

14g up to 400wrms

12g up to 750wrms

10g up to 1500wrms

8g up to 2500wrms to 3000wrms

2ohms

14g up to 300wrms

12g up to 500wrms

10g up to 1000wrms

8g up to 2000wrms

1ohm

14g up to 150wrms

12g up to 350wrms

10g up to 1000wrms (speaker will only see 980wrms)

8g up to 2250wrms (speaker will only see 2227wrms)

.5 ohm @ 4ft

10g up to 500wrms (speaker will only see 480wrms)

8g up to 1500wrms (speaker will only see 1470wrms)

most of these calculations are what would seem to be the best conditions but each could be pushed more but will have a greater wattage loss and higher amperage flow

someone check this because it doesn't seem all that right.

thats a tough call because there are a lot of variables, such as impedence (as you've shown), but also wire length is a big one. I'm running 10ga speaker wire for my system now due to really short wire lengths, but my last setup (less wattage) i used 8ga.

then again, the sticky could always estimate a bit high?

i vote yes either way tho i guess hah

yea after using that program I realized there are a lot of variables in which I tried to cover most of. Hopefully someone will come along and clean up my work then make it a sticky
