Possible amp problem?

I have an older Memphis 1000 wrms at 1 ohm amplifier and I tried setting the gains with my dmm. The calulator on ROE said I needed to be at 31.6V, btu when I tried to tune it there, I had to turn the gain and the X-over all the way up and have my headunit so loud it was distorting the speakers (the subs were good though). The HU starts distorting past 15, I have to turn it to 18 just to get to the 31.6V. Anyone got any ideas why this is happening?

Are you using the RCA preouts? Is your sub setting turned all the way up on your HU (most HU's won't give you the full voltage until you do)...all other setting should be off though

there was only 1 set of RCA outlets on the HU, its an older Kenwood, it doesnt have a sub control, think that may be the problem?

um yea a big problem take a 150 bucks and get a better hu
