ported sony's

rite now i have 2 sony xplods 10"s sealed. i was planning on getting new subs but i decided to get some pipes on my truck instead so for the time being i want to make me a ported box for my sony's to get some more output. i have a reg cab truck. i can get 2.2 cu.ft. before displacement of subs and ports. any body know if thats enuff room for both subs to be ported and what would u suggest tuning them to i was thinkin maybe 33hz......any suggestions....by the way they are the p5's and dont say get some new subs cuz i aint buyin new sub......yet....jus want a beter box

Sony Xplod P5's sound best ported and get pretty loud. I did a 2 12" install of sony xplod p5's that were ported and it wasn't bad.

Well it was a perfect match prefab box. It had 1.58CF in each chamber, the exact specifications of what sony recommends for that sub being ported. Here is the link to the enclosure.

Go to hatchbacks then go down to 324 series box. Thats what it was in..

2.2 cubes is good for 2 10's, if you're looking for some decent sound quality, then port it to about 32 hz.

I've had experince with those subs last week. I was helping a friend with his system but he had the 12" ones. The box I built for hin was a 3 cu^ft after displ. tuned to 32 hz and it wasnt as bad as I though it would be. So I would say go for it!

so yall think 32 hz would give me the best sq????? with the box tuned to that do u think the sq would be better than sealed????? would it be louder than sealed?????? i have them in a sealed box rite now and on quick low bass note when the music changes notes it makes a weird thowwwp thwooop sound... i think that has something to do with it being sealed cuz when it does that it seems under pressure.......any way what size ports to tune it to 32 hz??????

32 Hz usually seems to be well rounded tuning frequency for street bumping. So I would say so.

I know I am new here but I think 2.2CF before displacement would be fine for 2 10" p5's. After displacement you should have 1.9-2.0 CF. I build a ported box for 2 12's (3.0CF@30hz). I used (2) 3 inch pvc pipes that were 9.75". Sounded way better than they did sealed.

So my suggestion: Use the same size ports (3") but make the length ~8.5-9". That should tune you low enough. My guess would be around 35hz for the 8.5" and 32Hz for the 9".

maybe it's because it's a sony, and the transient response sucks? just maybe??

if you have bad transient response now, porting it isn't going to help, sorry...

so u have noticed the twwwwop sound as well when they are sealed. it is very noticeable on the song by lil wyte called "oxy cotton". when it makes the sound it sounds jus like what the cone is made of......polypropa something cant remeber...has that flexible plastic sound to it

Those Sony's will sound alot louder ported then a sealed enclosure.
