Ported question...

I put a pioneer shallow mount 10 in my 2005 under the back seat for reasons of space. Currently it is in a sealed box right at around .45 cu air space, which is on the lower end of the recommendation from pioneer... I'm not real happy with the sound, coming from a ported set up. I have a JBL-GTO amp with around 300 RMS going to it. If I add an external port would it sound better? I put in the box spec and desired tune on one of those online calculators and it says for 33 htz I need around 44 in of port if I use 3 inch pvc... thoughts?
