Ported O??

some subs need that air suspension that a sealed box gives...

some don't react well to the ported box environment... they get huge ugly spikes...

a whike back, I remember ben saying that teh O had BIG spikes ported... basically, gets supier super boomy, not accurate.

it all has to do with teh suspension and motor... now, I won't pretend to understand it all, but that's kinda general for you

oh ok,i get it.the suspension needs to work w/ the poirted enviornment.,same w/ motor

I know this is an old thread, but a strange one to say the least....

Hey tyler!

Remember what I said about mechanical q and vas having a lot to do with the way the sub sounds and reacts in different boxes? Yeah....

Without having the subs specs in front of me, i can tell that the ED O probably has a large vas, meaning that the suspension is realatively loose. This loose suspension will work well when the sealed box's internal air is acting against it, but will create a very peaky response in a ported enclosure where a realatively tight suspension is needed because of the lack of resistance.

ED O (sealed box sub) vs. Shocker Extreme (ported box sub) Compare the specs of the two and you'll se what I mean //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ooooohhh i get it.because the air is acting against the suspension it allows it to work fine, but when air isnt against it(ported) it doesnt work well.I see.

You should get on AIM so you can teach me more! :p Thank you for explaining though,i highly appreciate it.
