Ported IDQ Users

Johnson... I understand the definition of gross... wasn't sure if it applied to just the volume of the sub, or the port, as well.

I'm not so sure you know the answer, either...

gross should mean the total volume of the box before sub, port, bracing, etc. most companies list as net, but if id gives the correct specs, and the length, width of the tube, it really doesn't matter. Just make the box as big as the gross, drop the port and the sub in, and you should be good to go.

I had a pair of v2 IDQs that I ported.

I ported them in a smaller low tuned enclosure, and I was happy with the outcome.

They are fairly weak drivers SPL wise, but are rather accurate.

I'm sure you already know what to expect from these drivers, though.

I do believe that when they say gross, they are talking before the sub and before the port that they recommend but not before wood.

I would actually shoot for the net volumes they recommend if you're going to take that route.

If you're using an IDQ 12 and plan on going ported, a 1.25-1.5 net enclosure tuned from 28-30hz should sound very nice and have a pretty flat response in car. I would shoot for around 20-25in^2 of port area instead though.
