ported help needed

i'm very inexperienced with ported enclosures i've built several, but just to specs or pre-made designs, i've never really designed one myself so i have a few questions...

i'm designing one for a 10w6v2 for the truck of my car.

i was using the jl spec designs but i noticed the port width is only 1.25 inches...

what would widening the entire port (including the extention) do?...

decrease tuning frequency?...

The more port area, the higher the tuning frequency. To compensate, the port length needs to be lengthened.

A huge port is not always needed and some subs will not perform well with one due to the high air mass. This usually applies to subs with a weaker motor assembly.

but really thanks, and would you recommend changing the ported specs? i listen to all types of music...

i mean can you tell off hand if there are any major disadvantages of that design that could be improved?

also will the sub's location on the baffel have any effect? (how close the sub is to the port side)

Actually, I would do 1.25 cubes tuned to 28-30hz with about 15-20in^2 of port for that sub. I don't like their recommendation at all as I believe it really limits the low end extension. This does, however, help with mechanical power handling and in return, it keeps warrantied returns low. Their enclosure will probably cause things to get pretty peaky around 45-60hz and roll off quickly lower than that, even with cabin gain.

You should look into those imported boxes from Italy! They are pretty expensive (6000-8000) but you get like 250 deebeez like nothing.
