im trying to build a ported box for a hdc3 15, the only problem i have is my 6x9s are some quantum audio 3 ways that i put in there the magnets are huge so its only leaving me about 16 inches of clearance. would a woofer up port back set up work alright, and would i be able to use a vent port like that or would i have to use a circle port? or would i still be able to mount a 15 in 16 inches without ******* anything up

IIRC the outer diameter of the driver is ~15.75 inches and a cut out diameter of 14.0625. So yes, If you make the enclosure 16 inches tall you would be able to mount it on the side of the enclosure facing the rear of the car.

One thing to note is that the 6x9s need to be separated from the trunk compression if you do not want to mess them up. If I understand this correctly, you have them rear deck mounted, and then you also want to put the box in the trunk? If so, you will need to separate the volume for the 6x9s from the trunk so the box does not push them unexpectedly. make sense?

i think thats what happened with my old setup, do you think i should pull the 6x9s out of the deck completely or what? and how would i go about sealing up the mount spots from them

If you're gonna pull em, sealed it from the inside of the trunk under the holes. Drill some wood pieces into it that cover the holes and seal it with caulk.

You could also utilize them for ports as well, or cut them across to make one big opening for the trunk box to play through.

i would but im gonna be at the limit of my $500 budget with the sub, amp, and a bigger wiring kit thats why im just trying to learn everything i can about it so i can just build it myself and actually have it work decent. so if i just pulled the 6x9s and left them open as like a port would i have to change anything to the way the box is ported or tuned?

Pull them and seal them...I think that's been said.

From a concert standpoint, they never play speakers behind you. You're listening to music, not a movie.

You'd be fine.
