port length vs width question

I have about a 5 foot long piece of 10" wide pvc and I am going to try and box design and use it for the port, with the design I have, it will be either 8" or 9" long, is that a bad thing? You can never have a smaller length than width on say a 4" aero since the flares themselves are about 5" long.

So, will having a port shorter than it is wide cause any odd issues? I am not sold on this 10" port being better than a few 6" aero's. I believe less port air speed is better for spl too, any truth to this?

Nope, makes to matter on length vs area. Also low port velocity means your not building enough pressure in your box, which sounds strange, and isn't good for spl.

more area in the port raises the freq. more length lowers the freq.

If the ports that short then it sounds like you're tuning pretty high, or you don't have much port area for the box.

what size box? i know very large boxes require seemingly too short port lengths for desired tuning.
