Port length inside/outside box

I need 11 inches of port length in my enclosure.. Can I have 6 inches inside and another 5 on the outside? does that change anything or is 11 inches 11 inches? I'm using a flared port tube.

yep it can be done. try to round your port edges off to reduce port noise though

Port location makes no difference as long as it's attached. You can do all in, all out, half and half, whatever.

if u have it 5 in and 6 out vs all in it will change ur volume and tuning... u will have more volume inside the box... and lower tuning, so figure out the displacement of the port that is now outside of the box... add that into the total volume of the box, and u will have ur final tuning

i use to wonder that, but the above poster got me thi nking the samething. that would increase volume an thus lowering tuning some more. but not by much cause aero' ports don't take up that much area in a box. i would say go for it cause i have seen many guys do that an be fine.

it can be done, but securing the port will take some finesse and as exact a hole cut as possible. Also make sure you don't screw up displacement of the port that is inside the box or the tuning will be way off
