Port help

I tried doing some research and came up short so I figured I'd ask on here. I'm receiving two Incriminator Audio 12" 187's here soon and looked up the box specs. For the port, it says to have 20-30 inches of port which will tune it to 28-35 hz if I recall the website info, can someone explain to me what this means in regards to size of the port, thanks ahead of time.

And will I have to go slotted, it doesn't matter either way, I was just curious.

Is anyone running IA 12" 187's ported that can tell me what they are using for a port size?

Well it depends on the box size I would go with a 4-5 cube box and then you just want a port that will be about 60" of port area with a slot port. So a port could could 15" long but 4" wide, thats just an example or if you wanted to do aerostyle ports, then maybe just 1 6" or two 4's as aeroport don't require as much port area. Then need to just figure out port length to tune it where you want. Of course this all depends on what your goals are.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to put the box closer to 5 cf^3. Is there a good site for port tuning, I'd like to get it around 35-40 hz.

So depending how deep the box is, what would a recommended distance be from the back wall to the back of the port? For example, if the box was 18" deep, what would be the deepest I could go with the port without any huff or air cancellation issues?

You will want ATLEAST the diameter of your ports distance away from the back wall. So you have a box 18" deep and have a slot port 6" then you wouldn't want the port to be longer than 12" and of course depending on what you are tuning to it could be less than that or may need more than that and if you do then make the port an L shape or if using aero ports, get elbows to change the direction of the port.

Actually, with aeroports you can have them much closer to a wall since the air is able to enter and exit from all sides of the port(not the case with a slot port that uses other sides of the box, not to mention the flares of an aero makes a big difference as well). I remember reading somewhere that 2" is safe for an aero up to 6" in diameter.

Yea X2 but figured I would just stay with what I said because that is generally a good rule to follow about the diameter, and USUALLY the more room the better...but yea aeros can be a litte closer.
