Port Difference: Outside/Inside the Box

Hello, my first post here though I've read a lot on these forums.

Other then the minor change in air space, is there a big difference between having the port inside the box or outside the box?

Outside:

(port length: 11.44", port inner diameter: 5.017", PVC pipe)

That change in airspace will change tuning. Also, there is a slight phase shift from moving the end of the port from the sub face. Not anything audible but it exists.

I had a box plan similar to that with 2 15 MT's in about 9 cubes @ 35,with the ports comming through the rear deck but didn't know any thing about external ports so i trashed it.

There's supposed to be less turbulance with the ports on the outside, which creates higher spl levels.

Nice, my new box for my L7 15 will have 4 external 4" aeroports I'll be pretty happy if my score improves over the R's, which it should. I need mo powa.

I'm probably going to go with a 4" (ID) port after all.

If all goes well, I'll be building it next week.
