The box i made has one subwoofer on each side and the longest port i can do is 15 inches long and that's a 4 inch port but what about the thickenss/walls of the port does that affect the tunning much? And will pvc pipe work as a port or will i get port noise?? Also what would be the best tunning for all kind of music? Also thank you for all you help so far
So i just input numbers into the port calculator and also i went to measure my box and the biggest port i can possibly put in the box is 4 x 14 1/4 and i input box volume values until i got as close as possible to 35hz, i included a screen shot of what i did in the box calculator and it says i needed 1.6 ft^3If your 4 inch port is 4 3/8 outer diameter then cut a 4 3/8 hole and run the port as long as you can with 4 inches of clearance before it hits something. That should leave you with high 30s tuning if you can get 10-15 inches of port length. Its a hair too much airspace for these subs but 1.8 @ 38 hz isnt bad. You can always use styrofoam to take up some airspace later which will also lower tuning. Any frequency in the 30s is fine for daily music.
You're probably closer to 1.7 or 1.8 cubic feet after port displacement but yea that will work fine. Go with the 14 inch port.So i just input numbers into the port calculator and also i went to measure my box and the biggest port i can possibly put in the box is 4 x 14 1/4 and i input box volume values until i got as close as possible to 35hz, i included a screen shot of what i did in the box calculator and it says i needed 1.6 ft^3![]()
so subtracting the port desplacement which is .124 and the subwoofer displacement and the supports im left with 1.937 ft^3.
so would all this work if i take up about .337 ft^3 of the box to leave the woofer seeing 1.6 ft^3 or is that too much? i think im designing the subwoofer box port backward lol
i was playing around with the airspace and i think if i do 4 sa8 the woofers would see 1.8 ft^3 tuned at 36hz and thats after port adn subwoofer displacement i was just seeing my options. Would that be enough for them? i think sundown recommends .5 to .75 per subwoofer and each would be seeing .45 which seems very close to there minimum recommendation or would that be a bad idea. also i would be giving them around 1000w eachYou're probably closer to 1.7 or 1.8 cubic feet after port displacement but yea that will work fine. Well a buddy sent me to a shop tomorrow that everyone says makes amazing ported boxes so they can recheck all my measurements I'll be taking them the box so they can remeasure but i mean im 99% sure they'll be getting from .45 to .47 each, would they be ok in that airspace? Also i thought of 3 but i thought it would look weird with 2 on one side and 1 on the other, also if i run 4 i can use one amp on each pair of woofersMaybe try 3 rather than 4. It's up to you but 3 in that airspace would be just fine. A 4th sub could drop you down to 1.6 or so and .4 per sub with limited port options is just asking to choke them off.
