Port Area Question

I was wondering about the affect of port area on performance....being as u can achieve the same tuning with different port sizes what is the affect of port area on how ur subs sound?

Generally more port area = more SPL ... but it's mostly to decrease port noise ...

smaller ported increase the chances of the port noise mentioned...will sound like whistling in the enclosure.....slot ports are so much easier, really, and work alot better.
