popping noise, not good SQ

Hi

I have a 12w6v2 in a slotted box. Usually when i play music, it makes this popping noise and the bass really isnt that high yet. The quality sounds horrible to me at times.... good at times as well. I dont know, ive never really been in a real car speaker set up with subs and amps, so i wouldnt know what loud is "loud".

Anyways, the box is followed specs of the recommended in the 12w6v2's manual, and its powered by a 500/1, which ive constantly tried to tweak to my needs.

Just the most annoying thing is the popping noise, how do i get rid of this, prevent this? Like i said, its not even really that loud when the popping occurs...

maybe its port noise? How big is your port, or maybe your sub is busted....

my guess is you either have a busted sub, blown coil, or your gain is way too high...

Im sorry, ive seen in many times but never knew what it really meant; what is gain?

How will i be able to tell if its a busted sub or blown coil? Is it obvious?

The grounding is fine though, im sure of that.

the gain is a switch on the amp, read the gain setting tutorial at JLs website
