popping my cherry !!! hippo 122

hello everyone! Finally decided to join after months of being a guest

Soon I have a 99 Saturn and I just sold my 2 L7s to test out the massive audio hippo 122 12" I plan on getting a second one if I'm happy with the hippo

I'm running a hifonics brz1700.1 1700rms at 1 ohm I have big 3 and a deep cycle battery

Looking to get the most out of my 12 hippo

My trunk space is 35wide x 31 deep x 15 high

I heard the lower the hz the more bass u feel while the higher is louder

I'm looking for the bass that makes it hard to breathe and set off car alarms so I'm thinkin tuned to 27hz? Please correct me if I'm wrong! I forgot to put that the hippo needs 2.6 for optimum performance and this is my daily driver BTW

Can someone help me with a ported box design and possibly cut sheet?

All answers welcomed and greatly appreciated looking forward to being a member and doing a build log!!

And would it be better to have to port firing into the cabin or back of the trunk?

27hz tuning wont get you there. You want it to peak at 35 to 45hz since that is a lot easier to achieve that feeling than playing too low. 32 to 36 hz box is fine for that. CSCstang will design you a proper box.

Thank you guys so I was wrong on the lower hz part?
Tuning to 27hz is more of an airy sound. Kinda like a wind tunnel. You feel it more than you hear it. If you're trying to set off car alarms and have it hard to breathe, then a mid 30's tune is better for that. Plus when you tune that low, your higher bass will suffer as well.

I love the lows, but I usually stay around 32-33hz. The only time I tune to 28-30, is when the box has to be a little small(or not enough port area) because of limited space. Tuning low(depending on sub) helps keep it from sounding so boomy/peaky. I've had 8's tuned at 32 that would dig down to 24hz, andvd] tyty1yo6if you didn't see them you'd swear I had 12's.

My buddy has a Hippo 12 on a Sq 2200.1 and I built him a box that is 2.32@32.17hz with around 18.37sqin per cube of port area and it works extremely well for that sub. When playing decaf at 26hz, my brain felt like it was going to go through my nose.

Sent from my G870a on 38's.

Keep in mind the lower the port is tuned the longer it needs to be. You may need to adjust the net enclosure volume a bit larger for a 27 Hz tune as opposed to mid 30s as the port will take away volume. I have a 2001 SL2 and my enclosure is 3 cubes net, 2 cubes gross with a slot port tuned to 36 Hz. It's facing into the cabin and pushed up against the back seat pass-through opening. I doubt I could have fit a larger enclosure without making it a 2 piece clamshell design that bolts together inside the trunk. I put most of my equipment in the spare tire well and currently the trunk is useless for hauling anything. My point is you will not be doing 2 Hippo 12s in this car without an extreme box build taking up essentially the entire trunk.

I went with a forward facing enclosure because nothing I have done has eliminated trunk rattles, and I've tried a few things. A rattling trunk drives me insane. I'm sure you have noticed these cars tend to rattle and vibrate a lot even without the aid of a sound system.
