Pope Al is vewy, vewy mad

Did you know that scientists are working on altering genes in birds to recreate dinosaurs?
.......IMO, now I think you may be stoned.....LOL...J/K //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

That could be a good thing..........but most likely not.

Ever see Jurassic Park(s)?

None of them ever turned out good......

Documentary on the Science Channel. They altered genes in chickens to make curved teeth like dinosaurs, and to have scales. These chickens couldn't be born due to laws, but the embryos showed the adaptations.

Hmm....

Do not see a listing on their site about it......

Yeah, there's an (apparently) new dinosaur show on now, Dinosaur Revolution, that completely changes a lot of what we've come to know as how dinosaurs looked.

I'm more interested in watching Egyptian documentaries on Planet Green, though. I've never really liked dinosaur shows...

Never said those people were smart. I really don't like researching global warming because it's so riddled on both sides with political drama. And I've heard it. I've also heard that microwaves create cancerous food, that computers are trying to take over the world, and etc. People are incredibly stupid and have no idea what they're talking about. For instance, I have no idea what people blame global warming on because most of it is idiotic.
I have now learned from a quick Google search that people are proposing to rely more on nuclear energy to stop global warming. Honestly, I don't think nuclear energy is the right way to go either. But that's a different topic for shiz.
Nuclear power plants emit zero greenhouse gases. It is a very viable alternative to fossil fuels, but fear based on ignorance leads people to shy away from nuclear power.

Chernobyl was a dangerous design. It was/is a "dry pile", US based nuclear plants are water cooled. Dry piles rely on a large mound of carbon blocks for cooling the rods. The rods are simply set into the pile, and the heat from the rods dissipates into the carbon pile. The problem is, this carbon pile can only dissipate so much heat, once its critical temp is reached, it will get hotter and hotter until failure is eminent and unstoppable. That is what happened at Chernobyl, the pile over heated and it went critical.

US plants rely on water being pumped through the tank the rods are submerged into, to cool the rods. As you can imagine, this design means fresh water can be used to replace the overheated water, to continually keep the system from overheating and going critical. Japan's reactors have a 'wet core', but they did not take a tsunami into consideration when designing their backup power system. The wave(s) submerged the backup generators, and even washed away the tanks holding the fuel to power those generators. Nuclear power, as a fuel alternative, shold not be blamed for poor designs implemented in the past. We learn from our mistakes, and we can build an almost certainly worry-free nuclear plant here in the US. France relies on nuclear power for approx 80% of their electricity, for example.

The US has only built one dry pile ever, the very first one, the Manhattan Project. This reactor was built to learn about nuclear reactors, we quickly realized the inherent dangers in this design, and never built another one. USSR was some cheap bastards, they built the cheapest reactors they could... dry piles.

Microwaves do not cause cancer. Most people seem to think they cook the food by irradiating it. No radiation is produced by a microwave, zero. Microwaves use microwaves (go figure) to energize the molecules in the food. This energy makes the molecules vibrate. As they vibrate, they rub against each other, causing friction. This friction causes heat, and it is that heat that cooks the food. You are just as likely to get radiation sickness, or a brain tumor, from rubbing your hands together in the winter to keep them warm, as you are from a microwave.

Because someone is taking advantage of something doesn't mean that something doesn't exist. If you don't think climate change is real, then you're completely ignorant and need to go back to sleep.
To say it's caused by cars, nuclear plants, etc., is neither here nor there; but climate change is real. It's observable. It's happening.
Proof that you are a complete fucking moron.

Yes, the Earth warms, the Earth cools. Ever hear of the ice age fuck monkey? The "debate" here isn't whether or not the Earth is actually warming, and there is no conclusive proof that it is, the "debate" is whether or not WE are causing it. WE are NOT causing the Earth to warm or cool. There is absolutely no proof of that and you cannot offer any proof...and I can say that just based on your comment that you think nuclear power plants emit greenhouse gasses.

Also, FYI, there is no such thing as a global warming/global climate change scientist. There are so many different areas of study that there is no way anyone is ever going to agree on whether we are in a warming trend or not. Shit, we haven't even been tracking global temperatures on a regular basis for more than 100 years. So what do we base temperatures on 1,000 years ago? 10,000 years ago? 100,000 years ago? 1,000,000 years ago? We base it on what is known in the scientific community as artifacts - things like tree rings, ice cores, etc. These are not very accurate and only provide glimpses of temperatures in very specific areas of the globe and don't even take into account all of the factors that go into determining whether or not the Earth is in a warming/cooling trend.

The so-called global warming area of study is made up of scientists who study hurricanes, ice cores, plants, soil, ocean currents, glaciers, atmospheric conditions, etc. To say that all these areas of study agree that not only is the Earth warming but that WE are causing it is complete bull shit.

Gore is just cashing in on his new religion. Plain and simple. And he wants to make US (Americans) feel guilty that we are "raping" the natural world and causing global catastrophe. I say again...bull shit.

Call Japan and ask them how safe water based plants are. Yes, the tsunami was the cause of the melt down or partial melt down like that makes it better. I don’t live in cali or near fault lines but you better believe sometime in the future an earthquake will occur and then will see how lil we really know about nuclear safety. I am all for Nuclear plants but most of our plants are decades old and are located in areas of the country that have a history of quakes. It will happen it’s just a matter of time. But like everything else in America we refuse to think it will happen till it happens. Good luck to my fellow cali based members.

Actually, it's proven that the earth goes through 500 year cycles of heat>cool>heat etc. ATM we're nearing the end of a 500 year warming cycle. The earth has an ecosystem that allows for it to correct itself to stay stable for the long haul. Humans have such a minuscule effect that it is both negligible and nigh acquit able.

I already addressed the Japanese plant problems, so I really dont need to call them. Thanks for the suggestion though.

As for quakes, sure. There's also hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding rivers, alien attacks from outer space. The point is, we can either keep relying on fossil fuels we know are causing problems, here and now. We can sink trillions into developing inefficient power generation like wind power, that tree huggers are complaining about now because they kill birds and affect migration patterns. Or, we can get realistic about nuclear energy, pump more money into developing safer means of generating it, instead of shying away from it based on fear of what might happen some day, because of mistakes in the past (Chernobyl and Japan). Earthquakes? Even power generation as innocuous as a dam could cause severe problems if an earthquake struck it. Humans have not developed the perfect power source yet, everything has its downsides.

Everyone seem to want to make America seem like the bad guy when it comes to "Global warming"......

China has by far taken that title away from us. And guess what......they don't give 2 squirts of hot piss about it.

With any situation, its always America's fault......

Look at it this way

When something devastating happens somewhere in the world, who is the # 1 country called upon to help?

America, if we do not, we are bashed...

When something devastating happens here in America, where is the rest of the world??(compared to how we are expected to help out)

Its all our fault, bad on us, we are bad and no good and the rest of the world could care less about us. But let something bad happen somewhere and watch for all of the hands coming out to beg for help from us no good Americans.....
