I just installed a new CVX 12" in a sealed box (I think it's 2.4^3... the guy at the shop messed up and built me a box for two subs instead of one, so I'm not sure if he still built it the size he told me at first...)
Anyway, I decided to try adding the pollyfill fiber to see how I liked it. But I'm not sure about a couple of things:
First off, I added one bag to the chamber of my box that's got the sub in it. The bag is 20oz (1.25 lbs) I've heard to use about a pound per cube. The CVX manual suggests filling the box 50%. But just this one bag seemed like a LOT in there. I actually pulled out a wad of it.
Here is why I think I've got a lot/too much: On the back of the sub there is a hole. I've heard blocking this hole will f up the sub. But it sticks into the box pretty far. I tried pushing most of the fiber to the side of the sub, trying to leave space behind it.
But I'm not sure how much clearance I need behind the subwoofer, if any. Or if the fiber could get drawn up into the hole. Or if heat from the thing could burn the fiber (I didn't check to see if it was flamable...)
Am I worrying about nothing?
Lastly, I wasn't sure if I should pull the fiber apart making it looser or if I should jam it in tight. From the way I understand it works, it seems looser would be better. If that's so then I think I would need to remove close to half of what's in there making for closer to 1/2lb of stuffing.
