Polyfill a NoNo

Quick Question Guys.

My car came stock with the "premium" sound system that includes a factory subwoofer in the back. I took the sub out recently and notice that they actually have the amplifier for the sub also mounted INSIDE the box (not very big obviously)

I was curious that if it would be a bad idea to stuff the box with polyfill seeing that the amplifier is also located inside the box?? Its a very small amplifier and I doubt it gets very hot, the hottest ive ever felt it was warm to the touch but never scalding... Do you think this would cause an issue?

Polyfill is like 3 dollers at walmart, this isent really a ghetto factory setup either its a kicker setup with 8 speakers and one 12" Square sub in the back.. All I wanna do is add 1 pound of polyfil ( to add +1 to the cuft enclosure) and call it a day

the pillow stuff at wal mart is not the same as acousta-stuff that is used inside speaker enclosures; compare them side by side and it's clearly different

Also, it's not worth stuffing that stock speaker box with polyfill. The improvement will be negligable.

open up an old pillow you dont need anymore. get the cotton out of it and add it to the enclosure. voila! i saved you $3. thank me later

They sell a 1lb bag of Polyfill for $3+tax.

I was simply stating that the pillow stuff you can buy at wal mart is not the same as the acousta-stuff that you buy from parts express.
Poly fill is what your supposed to use. The Acousta-Stuff is marketing hype to get you to spend $8+shipping more than what you can get locally. May not be the same material, but it serves the same purpose. The purpose of polyfill is to absorb heat quickly to make the sub act like its in a larger box.

It doesn't dissipate heat... It absorbs vibrational energy (read: rear sound wave produced by the speaker). It actually transforms some of the vibrational energy INTO heat. Basically it does the exact opposite of what you said.

And there is a difference between the stuff you buy at wal mart and the stuff sold at parts express - the stuff sold by parts express is denser and better suited to its purpose.
