polyfil question

i bought 2 bags of polyfil today because i think my boxes are a little too small for my subs , thinking this could help out a little. Is there anything i need to know about it? or do i just start shovin this stuff into the boxes ? sorry for stupid questions but ive never dealt with this before , thanks

Do you only put polyfil in sealed enclosures? What does it actually do?

Makes the box act like it's bigger.

It slows down the waves inside the box making the speaker "think" the enclosure is actually larger than it is. It can help to smooth out the response of a relatively small sealed enclosure, as well as give you a little more low end extension. This is just as building a larger box will do.

If you want to get a little more technical - it changes the effective Qtc of the enclosure.
