Our family had 3 young African ( literally from africa born there ) America teenage boys stay with us last summer, and I have to admit it was different. They didn't wash there hair everyday and there was hair grease over just about everything. Also they ate nothing but rice and talked funnah.

Americanized Africans and blacks born here are not really the same. I hate to say it, but almost every African I have come in contact with I didn't really care for. I had to work around some of them. They were from Ghana and they just hung in their little group and talked shit.
But as for Deerhunt, with any roommate, you have to ask yourself whether or not you can hang out with that guy? Eventually you will, so you don't want some jagoff that couldn't pull a skank if hundred dollar bills circled around him like a tornado everywhere he went. This can go for whatever race he was. Personally, I wouldn't choose a roommate because I don't trust anyone, but to each his own.

Don't know all about that but i had a classmate (nigerian) - I can swear on ahything he's the CHEAPEST guy on earth.

One time we all decided to go out---we friggin drove for half an hour to get there, once he found out there was $5 cover he decided to go home.

*edit* I played soccer with a guy down here that called his dad "daddy". It's a southern thing. Nothing wrong with it, but it's a little odd when you're used to everyone calling their dad "dad" and all of a sudden a lot of people are calling their dad "daddy." Best way I can put it. This ***** is REAL! His mom and best friend came and helped him move in. Mom is a really sweet/nice lady. After she left, we all had a good conversation. His friend is 21 and don't have his GED and can't get a job without it. We discussed education,how college athletes have it made, how some athletes skip college and go pro. We got on this discussion because they went to school with Travis Outlaw (NBA player) who is stupid as sh1t. He likes to philosophize and I can agree/relate to everything he says. He is smart.

Really awesome guy and he definitely proved today I made the right decision!

LOL this guy is going to turn out to be an alcoholic from hell. Have fun man haha. Some people like to talk a big game going into a job interview. They get the job, then they work hard for a little bit. After awhile they start to slack off, and show their true self. This is what you have in your house right now buddy. Just wait for the signs. Pretty soon you will see an airmattress thats REAL familiar in the window of the nearest pawn shop. Good luck to you.

He went with his mom somewhere for a while. Tonight is his night off and he did say he is gonna have a beer or two. And I am good at reading people. I am pretty sure he isn't trying to portray himself as something he isn't.

I guess only time will tell..

And one more thing. Some of my friends have really pissed me off with their comments regarding this situation.

Update: He is still a really cool guy. I decided to welcome him big and grill out. His friends came by to get something and I told them to stay for the grilling. Grilled 2lbs of deer burgers and 1lb of deer minute steak. They loved it. One of his friends does have a warrant out for his arrest for not paying child support. The other has dealt drugs before, but he is supposedly clean now. They tripped me out. They are 21 and 22 and are trying to get their GED. I helped them out with verb tenses and what not. Real cool guys to just chill with. A funny comment made : "Man, if you go inside and cops see us 3 black people out in this neighborhood you know they gonna stop and ask whats going on!"

My room mate has never gotten to live in a place this nice before and I can tell he is excited. He had one of his girl friends come just a while ago and WHEW. She is a pretty black girl, thats for sure.

But all in all, everythings good, I am just a bit leery about his friends. Both his friends vouched for him though about how good of a guy he is.

The only thing I can really say is that I hope this changes how some people think. Even if it's only one person (like, say, your dad), that would be a great thing.
