pole vent clearance

Only found one number in the search,1 inch, and was wondering if that is the generally accepted minimum clearance? My hybrid enclosure is steel and 3/4" birch plywood.I can cut out the bottom and weld it a little deeper, but I'm trying to avoid raising the front baffle with another layer.

This all fits in the jack well of my pickup, hence the odd shape..

Thanks.

I guess my initial searches were too specific, too many words,as I only got one hit. I'll try to dumb it down when searching. Thanks.

And the sub in question is an Alpine R12. [new style]

thanks again

It increases air flow directly to the coil with it plugged. It will push and pull cool air instead of having a dead spot around the coil like pole vented subs do. The vent is to release pressure from under the dustcap and increase efficiency and to reduce noise. That is why you usually see big spl subs with small or no vents. I know sundown had a pole plug option on the nightshades for a while.

What sub has a sealed basket? 90% use a 12spoke or similar and all have vents. vents in the top plate only weaken motor strength.
My 18 has a sealed basket with spacers in between the top plate and the basket to increase cooling. All depends on what the sub needs to be for.
