K I'm lookin for a new router....now I hear people use plunge routers for their boxes, but what is the reason for a plunge router, over a fixed router. Which is better and why. I'm just lookin to round corners over and make circle cutout...

also recommend me a router too:D

very good question.

i'd rather have a fixed router. on a nice size table

but for cutting out speaker holes and other random thing's it's nice to have one free hand..

im going to be building a fixed router table here pretty soon.

i love my porter cable

can I just take the plunge base off? I'd prolly make a router table later too, but most will be just done by hand.

I was lookin at porter cable, and I hear they are the best for router...

But I dont think I need a badass router, but one that is solid and does nice work. Just got a nice craftsman router bit set tonight too. I hear good things bout the craftsman, and what about the skill, I see several people like em?

I bought a makita and it's kickass. You can take the plunge part off and affix it to a table with no issue.

Plunge router can "act" like a fixed router....so why not get the plunge. This is especially useful if you want to make rings that are flushmount.
Thats wha I'm lookin for. Sweet. K so I'll get a plunge now want ones do you guys recommend, preferable around $100 or less

i have a 2.5 hp skil that came with a plunge and a fixed base, it was under 100 bucks and is everything you need for the DIYer, got it at lowes, like 90
yeah I'm thinkin of getting that one...only thing is, is that it seems quite bulky
