I have seen some pretty decent toolbox boomboxes people have made using sealed boxes and poly cone speakers. I would use a battery for a UPS/battery backup unit. They are sealed 12V batteries with high capacity and relatively lightweight.
Not trolling, but are you aware companies already make heavy duty boomboxes for camping and job sites?

Credence, Aura, MarkAudio, Fostex are going to be your best bets for full range 4" speakers. Problem is, you're going to spend at least $20 each before you get into quality speakers. Plus you need an amp, batteries, cabinet, head unit......you're looking at least $120 to get decent equipment but at least its custom!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
