Please recommend a 4" Coaxial/Full range speaker for Portable Boombox

I want to build a battery-powered portable boombox to take on camping trips. My buddies and I always buy a new boombox every year worth $30-35 and end up trashing it so I want to build something rugged and easy to clean with something as simple as an airduster.

I've come upon this instructable: Ammo Box Speakers

So far, I've decided to run off either D or C batteries with either a T2024 or T2020 Amp (Amazon.com: Lepai Tripath TA2020 Class-T Hi-Fi Audio Amplifier: Electronics) Any insight on the above please feel free to let me know.

I just need some EFFICIENT with batteries (will be running off 15-20 watts) 4" full range speakers to throw in. I'm looking at something that will cost around $40 for the pair since these will be thrown around. It's probably not the best budget but it makes sense for what it's going to go through.

Boston acoustics s45Pioneer makes some 4 iinchers too

Kicker DS series.

Madisound has some too. Click drivers, fullrange, 4"
Nice! I think I've narrowed it down to the Kicker DS40 vs. Pioneer TS-A1072R just looking at the frequency ranges and price. Anyway to know which set will last longer on a single charge?

i dont think the speakers will determine that. only thing you may be able to get an estimate on is which will get the loudest off of your power. But then thats not always true due to different manufacturers measuring differently.

But just looking quickly at the specs, the pioneer is supposedly 2 decibels more efficient than the kicker, also will play down to 45hz as the kicker will only drop to 60hz.

Another thing to consider though, is that the pioneer is 3 way so that power is split between 3 drivers in relation to the kicker's 2 drivers.

all that said, i dont think you can go wrong either way. I use some kicker DS 5.25 coaxs in my room just to give my tv some high frequency response and they work fine . (givin em 150w from my home amp too, but i never crank it that loud either)
