first of all sorry that i am posting here with this matter

My current situation is that 2 couples moved into a 2 bedroom apartment,

splitting bills n what not , rent is 1250$

One couple is splitting up the rent needs to be paid,

Should the rent be split by room i.e 625 per room or the by the remaining people in the house. one bed room at 416 and the other at 833

please reply asap with your pov

What does your lease say? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/idea.gif.5acb6a39a9b92425414c316dda202bad.gif

I'd treat it by room. Too bad the other person will have to come up with double now, but they should have thought about that before moving in if they couldn't afford it by themselves.

The best way to split up stuff like this is by square footage. Biggest bedroom pays a little more than the smaller bedroom. When it comes to utilities though everyone uses their share so it gets split up evenly by the # of people.

Many years ago I shared a 2br apt with 2 other guys. Rent was $425/mth. I had the largest br so I paid $175, smallest br paid $150, guy who slept on a futon in the living room paid $100. We split all utilities evenly 3 ways.

Later on I shared a 3br apt with 2 other guys. Rent was $390/mth & we split it evenly at $130 even though the brs weren't all the same size with me having the smallest room. I didn't mind because it was a much better apt than the last with much better roommates. After a while one roommate moved out so we split the rent evenly at $195 each. We didn't have an issue until my girlfriend (now wife) moved in with me. My roommate wanted to split rent 3 ways even though she only moved into my br. I refused on the rent because we weren't using up any more space but agreed on the utilities since she would be using a third of those.

why should the couple pay more? its not their fault that the other couple split up, why should they be penalized? Maybe make whatever br is bigger pay a lil more like said, but just do even splits on the utilitys

exactly, We came into this place as 2 couples into 2 bed rooms. each paying 625 per room. him and his gf decide that they cannot live together( plus she is getting evicted by land lord) and now he is expecting me and my gf to pay 830 $ to occupy the same space as before vs 625.

what is the matter with me ? hmm nothing, the lease is with the landlord stating that rent is 1250 $. 1 person 5 people doesnt matter. There was no lease agreement between the couples. i am also doing this to get an outside perspective on the matter. I want to make sure that i as a person am making some what of the right decision here, i am not always right so id rather make sure that a big handful of people agree with my pov
