Hello all,
It's been 17 years since I built a serious system, but then my 16 yr old son wanted to upgrade his amp. One trip to the local shop was all it took for me...feeling the urge again.
The landscape has changed a LOT from what I knew, so please allow me to explain what I am after, what I am considering, and let me know what you think.
I drive a 2006 Scion XA. Listen to metal (Tool/Slayer/Zombie/etc...), modern rock, and even like a good thump now and then. I want plenty of very loud, very clean mids and highs, mixed with strong, tight bass that can make clear vision impossible if cranked up.
I am considering the following...please advise freely:
HU - Kenwood DPX-302 Front/rear components - 2 sets of the Boston Acoustics SX-60 set, rated at 65 watts RMS (200 watts peak power) Single 12" in sealed box (Dual 4 ohm coils) - Either the Kicker CompVR 07CVR122, 50-400 watts RMS (800 peak), or possibly a 12" TC-1000, with 400 watts continuous power (1200 watts peak)
I always thought running more power then needed was the best way to get the maximum performance with clean sound, so I am considering these amps:
Hifonics BXi 2006D (which is rated at 1300 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms, so I expect to get around 900-950 watts due to them being over-rated) and the Infinity Reference 7541a, rated at 111 watts x 4 channels at 4 ohms (which I expect to be fairly accurate, and be the clean sound I am looking for?).
Thoughts, suggestions, comments?
I am hoping someone here can point me in the direction I need to be going to achieve what I am after setup-wise.
Thanks!
