Please, I need some serious help!!!

I take it you are one of those who lives your life by the Termlab score? No offense, but a pair of 18s and four 5x7s doesn't exactly scream SQ to me!
where am i claiming SQ?

i go for deep chest pounding bass over SQ

point is you can get SQ for cheaper then JL's bullshit

stop whining about it

Actually, I would go one step further than just a box builder. I would also look for someone who has worked with your particular year/model of truck too! Building a ported enclosure to the vehicle in question makes more of a difference than you think it does //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
I never thought about it that way... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif Does ported really make that much of a difference? I mean for SQ? Or does it make it bump harder? I've always wanted to know... Or does it just depend on how the box is tuned?

Ported will generally play louder at its tuning frequency then drop like a brick afterward, but sealed is usually more forgiving in terms of enclosure size and install environment. It all depends on what sound you are looking for because ported can be designed with SQ in mind, but sealed generally has a milder roll off in frequency response hence the reason it is more likely to be used for SQ.

When it comes to designing ported enclosures, the first fun part is designing the enclosure. The next fun part is taking into consideration the transfer function, or cabin gain as it is more popularly known. Then some times you go back to the drawing board and rebuild your ported enclosure again:laugh:

I was just yanking your chain since you were the first to start with the nuthugging comment:laugh:

I sure as hell don't recall whining anywhere:rolleyes:

If I find someone who can properly make a box for my car/system. Should I reference JL's spec? I've read alot of posts about how some have modified the JL spec and made their boxes bigger and the results were amazing... I'd figure the guys at JL know what they're talking about but as for a specific application (car/truck) its up to the user and box builder to atone for these variables? Correct? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

If you don't mind me asking gunz4me, how long have you been in the world of car audio?

JL Audio's specs were designed to play loud in most automotive environments, hence the reason some get better results by going with a larger enclosure than what JL Audio recommends. You do have to be careful when you start getting way far away from their recommended specs though. Generally, the larger you go with your enclosure the less power your subwoofer will be able to handle. I once told a JL Audio loving friend of mine that this should be their motto "JL Audio - will make more bass in twice our recommended space";) Regardless, a decent enclosure designer should have access to enclosure modeling software along with experience in dealing with your particular vehicle.

As for how long I have been involved with car audio.... off and on since I was 16 years old.... so 20 years:eek: I helped out at a car audio shop when I was in high school by building enclosures for them when the mini-truck lowrider scene was the rage. They figured out what enclosure and driver combination worked best with the particular vehicles by trial and error back then! When they got it right, boy did it ever make a HUGE difference in sound and sales!

The main thing I have learned over the years is that one can take some fairly inexpensive equipment and make it sound really good with a lot of time and effort. On the other hand, I have heard some of the most expensive equipment sound like utter trash due to a horrible install. Unfortunately it is way easier to make premium equipment sound like garbage:(

If anyone from the chicago land area makes boxes, make them RIGHT and can carpet them to look professional. Please contact me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
Contact forum member mlstrass. I believe he's in your area and he builds some real nice boxes.

Yeah I found this local shop and I'm going to visit the owner on friday to discuss making a box for me. I'm pretty stoked! Honestly as much as I wanted to go with the 2 w6's, I dont wanna blow all my money on them so I'm gunna stick with the w3's... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Yeah maybe down the road I'll do one more upgrade to like a 13w7 or something but I really dont need outrageous thump. Thanks again man!!

I've currently got 2 JL 12w1v2's in there PowerWedge box running off of a JL 300/2. It was nice @ first but I need more!!! I've came across a great deal for a brand new system consisting of 2 12w3v3's in a PowerWedge box running off of a new JL HD750/1. I'm concerned I wont be satisfied.... Maybe it won't be as big of a improvement as I expected?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Could anyone please give me advice based on their experience or if anyone has this type of set up I'd be happy to hear how they feel about it. I've been dabbling for the past few years in the car audio world and now I plan to really take things seriously and get my shit straight about this sort of stuff. So any advice will be much appreciated!! Thanks to all
FYI, Please if you're gunna post things like JL is over-rated or your money can be better spent else where, DONT!!! I know I want JL and I know what my finacial limitations are, I dont need ppl to tell me that sort of BS! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif
Why not just buy 2 of the best subs JL has and put an amp on each one. Or put 2 amps on each. so 2 subs and 4 amps.

And how is our advice appreciated but you don't want to hear how you can get way more boom and value out of another brand substage?

I'm not sure of the quality there, that's why I'm going to scope it out first but its called Sound Image and its near Rockford. Ever heard of it? What are you running if you dont mind me asking?

The OP said he wanted JL Audio. Shouldn't that be good enough of a reason?

Also, if you wanted to buy a Corvette ZR1, do you think you would want to hear someone's useless drivel about how the Nissan GT-R is better and cheaper?

Premier 800PRS

Audioque 2200D

Audioque HDC3-15

Eclipse XA4000

AA poly mids, Seas NEo (not sure of the model) tweets (Active)

Red top up front, Yellow in the rear

250 amp Mechman with 1/0 and 4 gauge wiring

All in a 99 Chrysler 300M

I'm working on my other car now. 85 Chevy Monte Carlo. So far all I have is an Eclipse CD7000, another XA4000 for the highs and 2 sets of Mpyre 6.5s. I also have a 200 Amp Mechman alt that I will try to put in this weekend. I'm still trying to decide on the sub stage. I may just do 1 18 inch sub to save a little money. I'm still within my budget because I saved on my HU.
